about annie frisbie ibclc ma
When my older daughter was born in 2007, I had no idea breastfeeding was going to be so hard! We had so many problems in the beginning, and when I reached out for help, I had no idea I was about to launch myself into a whole new career. After getting amazing help and support from IBCLC Catherine Watson Genna, I began attending La Leche League meetings in my home neighborhood of Sunnyside, Queens. I became fascinated by everything related to breastfeeding, and by the time my younger daughter was born in 2010 I had completed all the educational requirements to sit for the board exam to become certified as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. I finished my clinical requirements in 2011 and passed the exam that same year. I've been in private practice ever since. I am also the author of Paperless Private Practice for the IBCLC.
My "other job" is that of screenwriter--I've been a member of the Writers' Guild of America, East since 2001. Most of the movies I wrote for TV networks like Lifetime and ABC Family ended up languishing in "development hell," but I did have two movies produced: The Good Witch's Destiny (for Hallmark Channel) and Speak, starring a very young Kristen Stewart and based on a truly phenomenal young adult novel. I spent a long time in the film industry, working for movie producers and doing product placement and judging screenplay competitions. I even worked for a time as a film critic. My master's degree is in cinema studies, and I'll always have a special place in my heart for the Italian neorealists and 80s teen comedies. In college, I double-majored in theater and American Studies. My poor book blog is largely defunct but I'm always reading for pleasure.
What really ties my diverse experience together is my passion for the stories we tell with our lives, and when I work with my clients I love to help them see the way they are working together to create something splendidly new in the world--a family.
